Created LA’s First Tech Conference for Seniors

An LA nonprofit needed a strategy to engage the tech community in supporting their mission to help seniors live better as they age. I was proud to create and launch a technology conference for seniors called AGING INTO THE FUTURE (responsible for the entire initiative, soup to nuts).

The full day conference featured guest speakers, a tech expo, interactive tech help lounge (with Gen Z’ers showing seniors how to take and send selfies), and co-creation workshops, where tech entrepreneurs showcased their products and received valuable feedback on how to create tech forward products to improve quality of life for seniors.

We grew the initiative from 300 attendees at the California Science Center to 800 attendees at the LA Convention Center by the 3rd year in 2019. Unfortunately, Covid and changing tides within the nonprofit led to sunsetting the conference, but it made great impact during its run.

Led Public Affairs & Community Engagement Strategies

Many retailers face high levels of theft and risks/threats to employees and customers.

I worked with retailers in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco to lead law enforcement relations, strategic community relations and public affairs to help Fortune 500 companies navigate the complex issues around homelessness and organized retail crime.

Stakeholder engagement strategies were designed with corporate social responsibility in mind so business issues were addressed while also having a positive impact on their communities. We delivered toolkits for management, organized working groups with critical stakeholders and established effective partnerships.

I had an amazing opportunity to lead the Public/Private Partnerships Initiative for Amazon’s Global Corporate Security Division for several years as a consultant, responsible for designing Amazon’s strategy for partnering with government officials and law enforcement to help create safer communities in 3 neighborhoods where the company had a corporate site: Seattle, Nashville, and Arlington VA.

Built & advised police foundations

I consulted for police chiefs and business leaders and built several new police foundations from the ground up, and also advised existing police foundations on their operations, programming and fundraising.

In 2020, I created and launched Police Foundation Partners as a national network of police foundations that met monthly via Zoom to discuss best practices in nonprofit management, hear from guest speakers and exchange resources. It grew to a network of 30 cities nationwide and was active for more than a year before sunsetting due to external factors.

Created a training program

In 2016, following frequent media coverage of fatal police shootings of unarmed Black men, I convened subject matter experts from the business world to develop a training program to help police departments close the learning curve when it came to social media and modern communication practices so they could better connect with their communities.

The program: “COPTICS: The Optics of Policing in the Digital Age”, was featured in the Wall Street Journal and Police1 magazine.

The training was delivered to hundreds of law enforcement officials through partnerships with the New Jersey State Police Chiefs Association, University of Southern California’s Law Enforcement Advanced Development (LEAD) Program for the Los Angeles Police Department, and National Asian Peace Officers’ Association
